ANDY POWELL

Thirty years with Wishbone Ash, Andy Powell, can be called the
"lone survivor" of this Rock n' Roll band. Forty-nine year old Powell
knows what it takes to keep a band producing for 3 decades. Andy
started playing guitar at a very young age and bought his first guitar
for $5.00 from a friend. He played in a professional band called
"Sugar Band" in the mid-sixties while still going to school in a town
outside of London called Hemel Hempstead. The sound was not quite
Rock n' Roll but more of the soulful Motown that can be felt, even today
30 years later. Finally he saw an ad in a music magazine called
"Melody Maker" for a band needing a guitar player. When Andy auditioned
for the position he was one of two guitarists chosen because Martin Turner
and Steve Upton could not decide between two talented musicians. The other
one being Ted Turner. Ted is not blood relation to Martin, but as Martin
often said "he's my brother". It was Martin who said, "why not have two
guitarists playing in harmony?" Thus, the birth of the "Twin Lead Guitar
Sound" that Wishbone Ash has trademarked. Currently, Andy Powell is
touring with Wishbone Ash on a 3 month European Tour, doing most of the
lead guitar work and vocals. When he is not touring he manages the band,
writes songs, and deals with all the business necessary to keep his
passion alive. He reflects our passion in the riffs and lyrics that have
kept loyal fans following for 30 years. I am proud to be a spokesman for
the band and to be in a position to reflect the opinions of the fans for
a band we have come to love,
Wishbone Ash!
