MARK BIRCH

Nearly thirty years old, Mark Birch is the newest member of Wishbone Ash
replacing Roger Filgate as lead guitarist. Mark has been asked if he is
Andy's son. He has done a remarkable job for Wishbone by alternating the
leads as well as doing some of the more difficult vocal parts. Born in
Kidderminster in the Midlands of England, Mark formed his first band at
age 15. He played the London scene for many years in bands such as
Nev MacDonald and Skin. When a position became available with Wishbone Ash,
Mark auditioned via e-mail with Andy Powell. Andy liked what he heard,
and was in desperate need of a guitarist because of a last minute notice
from Roger that he could not continue with Wishbone Ash. Andy chose Mark
to fill the lead guitar position. The majority of fans have responded
positively to the change. Mark steps up to the microphone and gives it
his all. Mark is now touring with Wishbone Ash until mid- December 1999,
and has written new songs for the new CD "Bare Bones". Way to go Mark!
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing you again on the road!
All the best, Dr. John
