"Some Conversation" with Andy Powell

Dr.:  Hi Andy, are you rested up from your long European Tour?
Andy:
Feeling up and ready for some more road work... piece 'a cake after
dealing with a New England winter!
Dr.:  How did you spend the millennium?
Andy:
Quietly at home with friends and family and some good French wine.
Dr.:  What was the crowd attendance like in Europe?
Andy:
Same as usual... in the hundreds rather than the thousands. Many of the clubs
we played were sell - outs though, and it was particularly good to get back
into France after a long absence from that country.
Dr.:  You have a new "Live" CD due out in September 2000, does it have a title, yet? Would you like the fans to give suggestions?
Andy:
We hope to have a new CD out at that time, but like all these things, the
business wheels have to be set in motion. That's what we are aiming at and
I'm fairly confident it will come to pass. The important thing is that the
music is already recorded and ready to go. The fans may, by all means, give
title suggestions, but no promises that we'll use them.
Dr.:  Have you or Mark, Bob, or Ray written any new Ash songs?
Andy:
Yes, we've been writing whenever we get time together.
Dr.:  Do you remember playing the Cavern Club in Liverpool UK (1970) and how the show went? It must be exciting to know you will play the club again, 30 years later to the date. 4/18
Andy:
I don't remember too much about it except that it was small and cavern -
like. I think they've expanded it somewhat since then. It's exciting to play
it again because these places have a mythical pull in rock & roll history.
It's like the star club in Hamburg or the Fillmore in San Fran.
Dr.:  Gene Harris is a famous Jazz musician from Boise, Idaho who recently passed away, he has been recording with Brother Jack McDuff. Did you know Jack McDuff personally? And do you remember what song Jack McDuff played where the song Vas Dis was taken from?
Andy:
Sorry to hear about Gene Harris. I don't know Jack McDuff personally but the
tune VAS DIS is the same one Jack did and, surprise , surprise, it's called
VAS DIS! check it out- it's interesting to hear the original.
Dr.:  I know you are planning a big show at the Sheppard's Bush Empire in London on April, 22. What special guests will be appearing and will they be performing with Wishbone Ash?
Andy:
The special guests will be the Ben Granfelt band from Finland. They've
appeared with us on several shows, both in the u.k. and the u.s.
also, we will have some of the additional musicians who worked with us on
Bare Bones; people like percussionist Glen Lefleur who worked with Gerry
Rafferty on the hit single "BAKER STREET". Giles Hedley will play harp and
Claire hail will lend her vocal chords! there will be several other players
too.

THE SHOW WILL BE A STORMER!
Dr.:  I'm sure you can imagine how anxious the USA fans are to know that there may be another convention here in the States. Possibly in Cleveland, Ohio. Do you have any current news on this? I know fans are planning their vacation time at work around this announcement.
Andy:
We are as anxious to play at another convention in the USA, as the fans are
to come and hear us. As always, I'm in the hands of agents and venues. I'm
very aware that fans go the extra mile to arrange work and vacations to make
these events. Rest assured that I hustle every week on this, and other
issues. I need to know too!
We are waiting to hear if Cleveland is a "GO" and the minute we know this an
announcement will go up on the band's official site
Thanks Andy for your time and comments. We all appreciate it very much! Cheers,

Dr. John
Andy:
My pleasure, John. my best wishes and appreciation to the U.S. fans for
hanging in there with us! "IT AIN'T NO EASY ROAD"
